Grant Funding

Hello Sporting Sections,

It's that time of year again. No sooner have many of our sporting sections concluded this year's activities than it is time to begin planning for the year ahead.

So here goes...

Purpose and Commitment

The process remains familiar and follows the same broad pattern as previous years. Police Sport UK remains committed to supporting a wide range of sporting opportunities for serving and retired members across the United Kingdom, and the annual grant process remains an important part of that commitment.  Please follow the process below for this years grant application.

Application Process

The grant funding process has been revised, and the new policy can be seen embedded within our website under the tab ‘Grant Funding'

Each section is required to complete the grant application form and return it by Friday 4th December 2026 at the latest. Please return it to Psukexecdir@gmail.com.

The Board of Directors has established a grant funding sub-committee (led by ACC Mike Walker) which will consider all grant funding applications at a dedicated meeting following the submission deadline. To assist the sub-committee in its deliberations, you will also find the attached Sporting Section Supplementary Information Form. Please submit this alongside your grant application form.

Within that form you will find reference to the PSUK Strategic Priorities 2027, which are also available on the website homepage for your reference and guidance.

Applications should clearly demonstrate how proposed activity contributes towards participation, wellbeing, championship delivery, inclusion and the wider strategic priorities of Police Sport UK.

As in recent years, the grant application spreadsheet provides for both UK and international sporting activity through one transparent annual funding process.

Funding priorities

The funding available to PSUK remains relatively modest and our relationship with force sports clubs continues to be of critical importance in maintaining and developing the excellent range of sporting opportunities available to members.

Particular consideration will be given to applications that demonstrate growth in participation, support for wellbeing, delivery of National Police Championships, inclusion and accessibility, development of younger members in service and sustainable development of sporting sections.

Important funding note

Please do not commit financially to any activity which is entirely dependent upon grant funding until formal confirmation of your allocation has been received.

FAQs

What is the Process for PSUK Grant Funding ?

This was reviewed and revised in 2026 and the new policy is available on the website

Can PSUK fund the entire cost of an event?

Not normally. Sporting sections should continue to explore local sponsorship, force support and participant contributions.

Can international events be funded?

Yes, subject to assessment and budget availability

Can additional fixtures be submitted?

The Core grant funding is for Four UK events, and one international event per annum, but bespoke application can be made in exceptional circumstances

Are full grants guaranteed?

No. Applications are assessed competitively against available funding. Once the funding is approved you then have certainty. It is a dedicated sub-committee chaired by a board Director that make the allocation of funding decisions.

What happens if costs change?

Sections should notify PSUK at the earliest opportunity.
