Police Sport U.K. has over 300,000 officers and staff and is the official organisation representing police force sport for England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Our PSUK U.K. Equestrian Section must be the biggest police equestrian club in the U.K!
The PSUK Equestrian Section was established in 2017 and since that year we have never missed a beat (pun intended!) bringing you fabulous equestrian championships and amazing competitions year on year without fail.
We are excited to welcome you into the police sport family where you can enjoy friendship, camaraderie, kindness and support. Within this space we can share our passion for horses and recalibrate for positive mental health and our physical well-being. Our connections with horses support us in many ways, not least helping us achieve balance away from our dedicated and often challenging professional lives of public service.
We have a thriving equestrian section membership with riders from all police forces able to compete across a range of disciplines from grassroots through to some giddier and more advanced levels. There really is something for everyone and any equestrian can participate with us and alongside you because we run different rider sections at all our inclusive events. For ALL police service employees, officers and retired officers – with your police sports club membership - you are automatically part of our team!
Our National Equestrian Section Event Team coordinates and runs PSUK Equestrian Championships across the country. As the official organisation for formal Police Sport, we are proud to have formally aligned with the U.K. Armed Forces Equestrian Association - the official governing organisation representing and facilitating equestrian sport within the British Armed Forces.
The PSUK and UKAFEA annual fixtures calendar offers a host of opportunities to compete for PSUK placings and awards throughout the year at various venues across the country.
The PSUK and UKAFEA calendar brings you an array of separate inter-services military championships for police riders to participate in. We also work together as a joint event team to bring you a fantastic collaborated Equestrian Championships Festival at the end of each competition season. Our competition season always ends on the highest celebratory note with this collaborated event bringing Police, Emergency Services and Armed Forces riders together for the U.K. Armed Forces, Police Sport U.K. and Blue Lights Horse Show® Equestrian Championships (UKAFEC).
Blue Lights Horse Shows® are home to our PSUK Equestrian section as its own event platform. Our amazing horse show brings us all together; uniting Crown Services and Police Sport teams; enabling our open public sections to meet and compete alongside PSUK and other U.K. Emergency Services - our Blue Lights of Great Britain teams! You can find Blue Lights Horse Shows® across the U.K. at Southern and Northern U.K. venues and appearing at collaboration events and Equestrian Festivals such as the U.K. Armed Forced Equestrian Championships and associated with our valued external Equestrian Event partners.
Blue Lights Horse Shows® re-branded in 2016 and has established an enduring charitable ethos: “Linking Equestrianism with Charitable Giving to Support the Communities we Serve”. Through charity awareness profiling and with grateful thanks to our venue hosts we continue to be able to support fund raising for our nominated charities.
A principal charity the show supports is the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund. We are immensely proud of our journey so far and to introduce Bryn Hughes MBE of the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund as a patron of the Blue Lights Horse Show®. We honour Bryn Hughes in so many ways – but not least – his most recent untiring work as one of the campaigners to bring to fruition the Elizabeth Emblem Award. The posthumous award presented to next of kin of emergency service personnel killed in performance of their duty; “for a life given in service”.
