96 individual anglers took part, making 19 teams representing 7 countries from across Europe.
7 anglers from the UK travelled to the event and after 4 days of intense practice on the match venues, the team of 5 was selected to represent Police Sport UK.
Th team was Dave Smith (Essex) Ian Jones (Hampshire) John Eldred (City of London) Phil Croxford (West Midlands) and Dick Tranter (West Midlands) Graeme Aggar (Hampshire) and Dave Parker (West Midlands) fished in other mixed teams.
Match day 1 was won outright by Ian Jones. The rest of the team also all had good consistent results which put the England team in 1st place on 19 points just 15 points ahead of 2nd placed team Germany.
Match day 2 needed to be a good day and the team did not disappoint. Ian Jones was consistent as ever with another section win and with the results from the rest of the team being good, hopes were high. The results always take time to process and at the presentation evening, the teams hopes and expectations were fulfilled.
The PSUK team managed to win the day again and with an aggregate score over the 2 days of 51 points, they were crowned European Police Champions. It was an emphatic win as they were 27 points above 2nd placed team Germany and 36 points ahead of the hosts, Italy in 3rd place.
The icing on the cake was yet to come.
Ian Jones was crowned the European Individual Champion and 6 of the 7 PSUK anglers were all ranked in the top 15 individuals. Such is the talent and competition for places, Graeme Aggar (who did not make the team) also finished as the 3rd best individual.
In 2026, the event will be hosted by England on commercial fisheries in the Worcestershire area of the UK. Many of the European anglers look forward to coming to the UK to experience this style of fishing and we hope to be able to host a super event for them all.
